Connect Your Ethernet Enabled Devices Using the D-Link Wireless Bridge

Convert virtually any Ethernet-based device — set-top box, game console (Xbox®, PS2®, GameCube®), printer, laptop, or even desktop — into a wireless network device.

Note: The following installation instruction applies to DWL-G810, DWL-810+, and DWL-810 through a Win XP client.

Hardware Installation

  1. Connect the power adapter to the receptor at the back panel of the bridge and then plug the other end of the power adapter to an electrical outlet or power strip.

  2. For initial configuration, insert one end of the Ethernet cable into bridge and the other end into your wireless Router. Make sure you have a laptop/desktop hard wired to that wireless Router to setup the bridge.

  3. Then attach the included antenna behind the bridge and lift it so it's vertically positioned.

Configuring the bridge

  1. Now for purpose of configuring the bridge, assign the laptop/desktop (connected to the wireless Router) to static IP within the default IP address range of 192.168.0.30 (wireless bridge). Click on "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Network Connections" > Right click on "Local Area Connections" > Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" > Click "Properties".

  2. Below window will appear. Select "Use the following IP address" circle. Type your IP address and subnet mask. (The IP address of the wireless bridge is 192.168.0.30. You can assign 192.168.0.51 for your computer as an example. No two computers can have the same IP Address. Then assign a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0)

  3. Open your Web browser and type "http://192.168.0.30" into the URL address box. Then press the Enter or Return. If the page does not load, then unplug the bridges' power adapter from the outlet and then plug it back in. Wait a minute for the bridge to cycle through and then try typing in the URL again.
Screenshot is captured from DWL-G810 configuration. However, the installation instruction applies to other D-Link wireless bridges as well (DWL-810+, DWL-810).

  4. A username/password pop-up box will appear. Type "admin" for the username and leave the password field blank. Then click "OK".

  5. Once you have logged in, the Home screen will appear. Click on "Run Wizard".

  6. You will see the following screen. Continue by clicking "Next".

  7. Set Password box will appear. You have an option to setup your new password. By default there is no password set. Then click "Next" to continue.

  8. Set Wireless LAN Connection box will appear. The default wireless settings are: SSID = default, Channel = 6, Operating Mode = Infrastructure. If your existing wireless network SSID is not default, click Site Survey button to select a wireless network or you can change the settings manually by typing. Then click "Next" to continue.

  9. Setup Encryption box will appear. By default the encryption is disabled. You can change the encryption settings for more secure wireless communication. Then click "Next" to continue.

  10. Setup Completed box will appear. Continue by clicking "Next".

  11. Saving Changes and Restarting box will appear. Continue by clicking "Next".

  12. After completing the configuration, assign your laptop/desktop back to automatic IP address setting as shown in figure below. Click on "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Network Connections" > Right click on "Local Area Connections" > Click "Properties". Then check the "Obtain an IP address automatically" and click "OK".

  13. You can now un-plug the bridges' Ethernet cable from the wireless Router and remotely connect your bridge with any Ethernet enabled device such as gaming console, printer, laptop pc, desktop, or set top box.

For other configuration setups, please refer to the product manual.
